Silver City RV Resort - Minden, NV – August 24-30, 2015

Our last week in the Carson City area; time here has gone so quickly.

Dick and I rode our bikes around the park for a while Monday morning before the temps rose to the mid 90s and the wind picked up. It’s always really windy here in the afternoon but dies down in the late evening. After lunch, as I worked on the week’s blog and the photos to include, Dick went with Hollee and Anastasia to Costco followed by swimming at our park’s pool. Anastasia wasn’t too sure about it, but Dick took good care of her!
Even though Anastasia is with Grandpa, she's still not too sure about
being in the pool

Later, friends Libby and Ray came over for happy hour at our camper, bringing 14 Hands Cabernet Sauvignon, chips and humus. We supplied the glasses and chairs. This was really the last opportunity we’d have to spend time with them before they leave for Australia and Tasmania on Wednesday. Hollee and Anastasia were still here so everyone had a chance to meet. We hope to meet here again in 2017 (seems like a long way off!).

L to R: Ray, Hollee, me with Anastasia and Dick.
Missing is Libby who's taking the photo.

Tuesday morning Dick and I headed back over the mountain to Lake Tahoe and Incline Village to attend toddler school with Anastasia. She’s growing up—not a little baby anymore, but rather a little girl. She’ll be 2 in November. First, we made a stop at David’s Pilates studio. Hollee also has her Isagenix office at his studio. Pretty cool! And...we had to include a video of Anastasia at toddler school!

We needed a relax day, so Wednesday was it, although we did ride our bikes around the park. We stopped by Libby and Ray’s camper to say our final goodbyes, with hugs all around. They left around noon, for their long trip home. They won’t arrive ‘til September 1st  their time (our 31st) after spending a day in San Francisco, Adelaide, and flying across to Perth before boarding a train home. We miss them already! After lunch Dick washed the black truck. Not much more to report that day

Thursday afternoon we drove across the mountain to South Lake Tahoe, where Hollee, David and Anastasia joined us for a gondola ride up Heavenly Mountain—a mere 9,136 feet above sea level! Smoke had cleared from the fires in California, Oregon, Washington and Idaho, so we had a pretty good view of Lake Tahoe from the top.

These photos were taken at South Lake Tahoe's gondola ride to Heavenly ski area.
Absolutely spectacular shots of Lake Tahoe. About 1/2 way to the top is a 17,600'
observation deck overlooking the lake. Then, at the top is a fabulous ski area; in the
summer it is a true family destination spot complete with 1,000 and 3,300' zip lines,
a 500' waterless tubing hill, adventure rope courses, a 25' climbing wall, miles and miles
of hiking trails, and dining opportunities at the Tamarack Lodge with everything
from cocktails, BBQ, sandwiches, and of course, ice cream.

Altitude made us all ravenous so after we returned to lake level at South Lake Tahoe we headed down the road a piece to “Sprouts” for a late lunch/early dinner. Most of their food is organic, and prepared fresh daily. Their menu includes soups, salads, sandwiches, wraps, burritos, smoothies, etc. We noshed on turkey and tuna sandwiches and a tuna burrito. The sandwiches, on toasted whole wheat bread, were about 3” high and all piled high with freshly grated cabbage and carrots, tomatoes, red onion, sprouts and avocado. The burrito had brown rice, black beans, carrots, red cabbage, tomato, Monterey jack cheese, sprouts, sour cream, guacamole and salsa folded into a sprouted whole wheat tortilla. All were served with sesame seed tortilla chips. YUM! Of course no meal would be complete without a bit of ice cream so we trekked 2 blocks down the street to a Sno-Flake drive-in for a hot fudge sundae and Oreo shake. Good stuff!

The week wasn’t over yet! After running errands Friday morning, we drove back over the mountain to Incline Village that afternoon to attend David’s concert at Incline Beach Park. His band is “Paul David and the Drivers”, and they draw quite a crowd, playing from 4:00 to 7:00. We snagged a picnic table so had take-out dinner from Incline’s T’s Rotisserie while we listened to the music. Here are just a few snaps and a video of the band.

Lake Tahoe late in the day, and shots of Anastasia with her daddy and friend Ezra.
She loved Ezra's scooter. Good thing her birthday and Christmas is coming!
Upon returning to our camper we met new neighbors Steve and Perry from Carson City who had just started RVing, so this was one of their first trips out.

Saturday was so windy, but Dick washed the outside of our camper anyway. The skies were partly cloudy all day, so I sat outside watching and supervising—yeah, right… I did do some reading, though. We had to scour off some tar from the front undercarriage of the camper before he could wash it. Out came the mineral spirits, bug cleaner and rubbing alcohol…lots of elbow grease! We decided we should wash it when we arrive at a campground, not when we’re getting ready to leave!

We were pleased to find a Seattle Seahawks game on TV Saturday night, and were really happy to have them win over San Diego, 16:15.

Sunday we did a bit of preparation for leaving: emptying the tanks, packing up some of the stuff from outside (chairs, coolers, etc.), before joining Hollee, David and Anastasia at Red’s 395 Grill in Carson City for an early dinner. What a fun time and so sad to leave them but the road is calling us.

The above shots were taken of Red's Old 395 Grill. Good food and lots of antiques to keep us amused!

We leave for Tonopah, NV on Monday for a 4-night stay, then on to St. George, UT for a couple of weeks. Should be a fun time there as we’ll be visiting Bryce and Zion Canyons, as well as anything else we happen upon. Until next week…

Hugs ‘n’ blessings,

RJ and Gail
