The days are quickly passing by, and almost daily we’re
saying farewell to friends from the park as they begin their journeys towards
home. Activities are few, but we still manage to see one another for informal
get-togethers. Thank goodness for phones, email and texting so we all can stay
in touch over the next few months ‘til we meet here again.
Monday we said goodbye to Steve and Marty. They left
mid-morning to begin their trek, with a few stops between here and Michigan,
where they plan to sell everything and become full-time RVers with Bay View RV
Park as their home base for much of the year.
That evening we joined Mike and Bea, Karen and Steve, Marge,
and Art for a neighborhood potluck held at Mike and Bea’s. They grilled the
hotdogs and various sausages, while the rest of us provided potato salad, baked
beans and caprese skewers. Dessert was angel food cake with fresh strawberry
icing, and key lime pie. YUM-YUM! We all agreed that we needed to do this more
often next year.
Nothing much happened Tuesday, other than I attended the
shrinking “Stitch and B…” group. Dick continued to work daily, putting in
almost 8 hours a day Monday through Friday.
Wednesday we bade farewell to Steve and Karen, as they began
their journey back to Wisconsin, along with their 2 huskies Tundra and Nikki.
Our neighborhood in the park is looking very empty!
Later that day we attended happy hour, followed by dinner at
the clubhouse. Chef Betty once again prepared a wonderful evening meal for us:
BBQ chicken skewers, coleslaw, parslied new potatoes, grilled asparagus and
lemon fruit freeze. YUM-YUM! As I’ve said before, we’re so blessed to have her
with us.
Thursday was a pool day for me, as the day was sunny with
low humidity and a breeze out of the south. Lovely. Friend Judy (Wisconsin) and
I were pretty much the only ones there ‘til later in the afternoon when a few
other folks joined us.
Dinner that night was Panjo’s Pizza with Mike and Bea. They
hadn’t been there, so it was a treat to introduce them to our favorite pizza
place in Rockport. Each couple managed to scarf down half of the 2 “everything”
pizzas we ordered, leaving plenty of leftovers.
As we were driving through the RV park we saw this turtle “scurrying”
across the road. He’s about the size of a dinner plate; we have quite a few
turtles in the park, many laying eggs in the sandy areas throughout.
After dropping Mike and Bea off at their motorhome, Dick and
I headed to the clubhouse to play Pegs ‘n’ Jokers with Bill and Carole (our
group is dwindling there, too!). Gals: 4, guys: 1. Woot-woot!
While Dick had lunch with the owner of the park on Friday, I
had a hamburger at the clubhouse. That afternoon I attended happy hour (Dick
worked) with just 7 others. This group is also getting smaller as the weeks go
by.
Clouds and wind where ushered in for Saturday, but the
temperatures were in the 70s. And, the humidity returned. Ugh! Happy hour was
at Butch and Laura’s; they’re one of the couples who are full-time park
monitors here. Enjoyed the time outdoors with 6 other couples, most who are
full-time Bay View residents.
Happy Resurrection Sunday! Easter morning was drizzly and
humid, but by shortly after noon the sun had come out, a breeze started blowing
and the day was beautiful. We attended First Baptist Church that morning at the
8:30 service. Pastor Jones continued his sermon series on spiritual awakening,
this week focusing on Lazarus and scripture taken from John 11:1-44. Pastor
Jones made 3 points:
1 In the darkest times of our lives God can awaken
us to the reality of Jesus’ identity and mission; God stretches us so we will
know and experience more of who Jesus is. Jesus stretches us so we will see
that he is accomplishing God’s purposes—not ours. It’s in the dark places of
our lives that we can see and experience God’s hope.
2 During the seemingly hopeless times we
experience, Jesus opens the way for new beginnings (if we allow him to), thus
awakening us to the true identify and mission of Jesus. Jesus is the
resurrection; Jesus is the life; and Jesus is the light.
3 In our dark and difficult times, God will call
us to a response of hope and faith. Our story isn’t finished until God says it
is.
Finally, the resurrection of Jesus gives us hope—it means
there is more to come…death is not final! Here’s the link to his message: www.fbcrockport.sermon.netwww.fbcrockport.sermon.net
After a short time at home—time for a cup of coffee—we
headed to the clubhouse for our Easter brunch. About 45 people attended. What a fabulous spread! Chef
Betty really outdid herself! Here are some photos of the brunch, including the
menu. No one walked away—we waddled!
After brunch Dick and I played Pegs ‘n’ Jokers with Bill and
Carole. Again the gals came out on top: 3 to1!
Upon returning home we sat outside and were joined by Mike and Bea, and
Joe (Ida was sleeping). Bea and Mike leave Monday (today) for Houston for
medical appointments before heading back to Missouri. Joe and Ida head to
Houston Wednesday for follow-up treatments for Ida’s cancer, then they’ll be
back to Bay View for a spell before her next treatment. The sun was shining,
low humidity, and a light breeze. Temps had reached the low 80s. Lovely.
That’s it for this week. We plan to leave Bay View on April
15, heading to Nacogdoches, Texas for a few days, then on to Shirley, Arkansas
before we land in Marvin and Shirley’s RV “parking lot” to have a few things
done on our 5th wheel. Stay tuned! There are more adventures ahead!
Love ‘n’ hugs,
RJ and Gail
