Another week here in Texas, and seeing what the rest of the
country is experiencing, we’re very happy to be here! This was a busy week
compared with the previous two.
Monday and Tuesday mornings we woke to temps in the low 50s,
but it warmed to the low 70s; the intensity of the sun makes it feel a whole
lot warmer. Dick has been very busy, working here in the RV park. He puts in at
least 20 hours per week, and I’ve put in a couple, too.
Tuesday I attended the weekly “Stitch and B…” session, along
with a dozen other ladies from the park. Everything from knitting, crocheting,
beading, and embroidery to hand sewing was happening, interspersed with various
discussions ranging from the situation in Ferguson, Missouri to healthcare and
politics. Later in the day I finally
got my hair cut—long overdue. A friend Carole (Arkansas), who also is in the
park, and who had her own shop for many years cut it in her “outdoor gazebo
shop.” Thanks, Carole, for helping me appear presentable once again!
That evening Dick and I headed to Panjo’s for pizza. I
didn’t feel like cooking, and it had been a while since we had been there.
T-shirts always make a statement, and this evening didn’t disappoint. Dick was
wearing a Sturgis motorcycle t-shirt, and as we were finishing eating a fellow
from a neighboring table came over to introduce himself—he was wearing a
Sturgis t-shirt, too. From the get-go the discussion went from talk of
motorcycles and Sturgis, to RVing (he and his wife Judy are also full-timers and
have been on the road for over 9 years), to RV parks and places we’ve visited.
Their mailing address is also in Box Elder, South Dakota, where ours is. Small
world.
Wednesday my Christmas present arrived: a Yamaha YPG235
keyboard (77 keys), stand and, sustaining pedal. WOW! Guess he misses my
playing! Good thing I have some music
with me. There’s a guitar group in the RV park that has asked me to play along
with them, during happy hour and before holiday dinners—as I did last
Christmas. I plan to do that occasionally. It’s good to play again, as I
haven’t touched the keys for quite a while. (Thanks, Honey, for my gift. I love
it!)
That evening we attended a wine tasting at a local winery, Winery
On The Bay, in downtown Rockport. About 30 folks from the park attended,
spending a couple of hours taste testing. They charged $3 for 4 tastes. What a
fun time; we came away with 2 bottles: a peach Chardonnay and “The Rose of
Texas” Chablis.

Afterward Gary and Pam (Oregon), Bob and Sharon (Missouri),
Robert and Diana (new friends in the park from Edmunds, Washington), and Dick
and I went to Crazy Rusty’s Tropical Grill and Bar in Fulton for a quick bite.
Rusty recently moved to this location after having operated a small restaurant
in Old Town Rockport for a number of years. Good food! Dick and I shared a
burger and onion rings; others had a BLT, a Panini, chicken salad, grilled
chicken sandwich, shrimp pie—I could go on, but you get the picture. Good
stuff!
Thursday, an absolutely beautiful day, and a day of giving
thanks for all God has provided. Both Dick and I were involved in Thanksgiving
Dinner preparations at the clubhouse: Dick helped carve the turkeys, and I
helped set the room for dinner, which involved setting up and moving tables,
putting on table cloths, etc., for the 90 folks we were planning on serving.
The park provided the turkeys, and our chef Betty and a few helpers prepared
the mashed potatoes and gravy. All salads, rolls, vegies and sides, and
desserts were provided by fellow RVers in the park. What a feast! I know everyone had a great time and did
not go away hungry! I brought sweet potato casserole with butterscotch schnapps
in it. Yum-yum!

After dinner, and after the clubhouse was cleaned up, we
played a few games of Pegs & Jokers. There were so many people playing we
needed 2 tables to play. Unfortunately, the women could not pull off a win at
either table. ‘Nuff said… The Seattle Seahawks did get a win, though, which
helped assuage our feelings of loss…
Friday was another beautiful day; the temps were already in
the low 60s when we got up at 7 a.m. Dick worked for a while that morning after
getting his hair cut (thanks again, Carole!). Then, as I prepared baked Brie
with caramelized onions, apricot preserves and candied walnuts for happy hour,
he walked along Fulton Beach Road for about 45 minutes. We sat outside with
friends Karen and Steve (Wisconsin) for a bit before doing the finishing
touches on the Brie and heading to the clubhouse for happy hour. Another fun
evening with friends.
Saturday, Dick worked for a while in the morning, and the remainder of the day was spent running errands—everything from getting the oil changed in the truck to Walmart for groceries, a local pawn shop to pick up cords to connect my keyboard to the amplifier at the clubhouse, Radio Shack to get a connector for the cords, and Lowes for a couple RV park items. The day was sunny, with temps in the upper 60s, although a bit breezy…all-in-all, a nice day. Oh, Dick even washed the truck! Yeah!

After breakfast at home, we headed to the clubhouse for the
ice cream social, followed by Pegs & Jokers. The women redeemed themselves,
winning 2 of the 3 games we played. Woot-woot!
We hope this finds you well and thankful for all you have. I
know we are thankful for what we have—and for you, our family and friends.
Until next week,
Hugs ‘n’ blessings,
